About Bruce
A specialist on Europe, Russia, and world sport, Bruce Berglund is a three-time Fulbright scholar and award-winning teacher.
For two decades, Bruce taught history and writing at colleges and universities in the United States. He is currently Visiting Professor at Charles University’s Institute for International Studies.
Bruce has written about the Olympics and international sport for the Washington Post and CNN. He has been interviewed for Sports Illustrated and The Athletic, and he has appeared on radio and television in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia. An engaging public speaker, he has presented to audiences at universities and museums, at small-town libraries and big-city bookstores.
Bruce’s research and teaching have brought him to 17 countries. He has worked in archives and libraries around the world and conducted research in nine languages. Reviewers have praised Bruce’s books for their rich breadth and lively style, describing them as “captivating,” “entertaining,” and “revisionist history in the very best sense.”
Bruce also writes books for middle-grade readers. Sports Illustrated Kids has published several of his books, including his series on the greatest athletes in sports history. Collaborating with illustrators, he has written graphic nonfiction books on subjects like Soviet women pilots during World War II, the famous Alaskan sled dog Togo, the war in Ukraine.
A proud son of Duluth, Minnesota’s gritty industrial side, Bruce now lives in Prague.
